Abstract

In March 2022, the level of population expenditure as measured by the Gini Ratio of Sumatera Utara was recorded at 0.312. This figure decreased by 0.001 points when compared to the Gini Ratio in September 2021 and decreased by 0.002 points when compared to the Gini Ratio in March 2021 which was 0.314.

The Gini Ratio in urban areas in March 2022 was recorded at 0.343, an increase of 0.004 points compared to the Gini Ratio in September 2021 which was 0.339. On the other hand, the Gini Ratio in rural areas in March 2022 was recorded at 0.249, a decrease of 0.008 points compared to the Gini Ratio in September 2021 which was 0.257.

Based on the size of the World Bank, the distribution of expenditure for the bottom 40 percent of the population in March 2022 was 22.13 percent. This means that population spending is still in the category at a low level. If broken down according to, in urban areas the figure was recorded at 20.62 percent and in rural areas the figure was recorded at 24.97 percent, which means that both of them are also in the low category.
