In December 2020, all CPI cities in North Sumatra had
inflation, namely Sibolga by 1.32 percent; Pematangsiantar by 1.47 percent;
Medan by 0.65 percent; Padangsidimpuan by 1.00 percent; and Gunung Sitoli by
1.87 percent. Thus, the combined 5 CPI cities in North Sumatra in December 2020
inflation of 0.75 percent.
In December 2020, Medan recorded inflation of 0.65 percent
or an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 103.48 in November 2020
to 104.15 in December 2020. Inflation occurred due to an increase in prices
indicated, namely the food, beverage, and tobacco 2.00 percent; clothing and
footwear group by 0.12 percent; housing, water, electricity, and household
fuels group of 0.03 percent; the food and beverage / restaurant supply group by
0.07 percent; and the personal care and other services group by 0.38 percent.
The expenditure group that experienced a decrease in index were the equipment,
equipment and household routine maintenance group by 0.05 percent; health group
of 0.03 percent; and the transportation group by 0.19 percent. Three other
groups that did not experience changes in index, namely the information,
communication and financial services group; recreational, sports, and cultural
groups; and education groups.
The main commodities contributing to inflation during
December 2020 in Medan include red chilies, bird's eye chilies, chicken eggs,
dencis fish, cooking oil, perfume, and tuna / ambu-ambu fish.
Of the 24 CPI cities on the island of Sumatra, all cities
recorded inflation. The highest inflation was in Gunung Sitoli at 1.87 percent
with a CPI of 107.85 and the lowest was in Bengkulu at 0.14 percent with a CPI
of 104.33.
