In
October 2020, all CPI cities in North Sumatra had inflation, namely Sibolga at
1.04 percent; Pematangsiantar by 0.46 percent; Medan by 0.45 percent;
Padangsidimpuan by 0.52 percent; and Gunung Sitoli with 0.71 percent. Thus, the
combined 5 CPI cities in North Sumatra in October 2020 inflation of 0.47
percent.
In
October 2020, Medan recorded inflation of 0.45 percent or an increase in the
Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 102.71 in September 2020 to 103.17 in October
2020. Inflation occurred due to an increase in prices indicated, namely the
food, beverage, group and tobacco 1.32 percent; equipment, tools, and household
routine maintenance group by 0.01 percent; the health group of 0.31 percent;
the transportation group of 0.15 percent; the food and beverage / restaurant
supply group by 0.02 percent; and personal care and other services group by
0.41 percent. The expenditure group on housing, water, electricity and
household fuels experienced a decrease in index of 0.04 percent. Four other
groups that did not experience changes in index, namely the clothing and
footwear group; information, communication and financial services group;
recreational, sports, and cultural groups; and education groups.
The
main commodities contributing to inflation during October 2020 in Medan include
red chilies, broiler chicken, shallots, green chilies, dencis fish, cooking
oil, and oranges.
Of
the 24 CPI cities on the island of Sumatra, 23 cities recorded inflation and
only 1 city experienced deflation. The highest inflation was in Sibolga at 1.04
percent with the CPI at 104.43 and the lowest in Bengkulu at 0.02 percent with
the CPI at 103.82. Meanwhile, Pangkal Pinang City deflated 0.32 percent with a
CPI of 102.19.
