Abstract

The number of workforce in August 2018 was 7,124 thousand people, up 381 thousand people compared to August 2017. In line with that the Labor Force Participation Rate (TPAK) also rose 2.94 points.

In the past year unemployment increased by 19 thousand people, in line with TPT which fell to 5.56 percent in August 2018. Judging from the level of education, the TPT for Vocational High Schools (SMK) still dominated at 9.65 percent.

The population worked in North Sumatra in August 2018 as many as 6,728 thousand people, an increase of 362 thousand people from August 2017. Employment experienced an increase in the percentage of the population working mainly in the Processing Industry (0.69 points), Provision of Accommodation (0.63 points), and Educational Services (0.37 points). Whereas the main decline was in Agriculture (1.99 points), Corporate Services (0.40 points) and Construction (0.12 points).

A total of 3,816 thousand people (56.72 percent) worked in informal activities. During the past year, from August 2017 which was 58 percent, informal workers dropped to 1.28 points.

Of the 6,728 thousand people employed, the majority of the population works in August 2018, which is around 4,580 thousand people (68.07 percent) are full workers (working hours of at least 35 hours per week). While residents who work with working hours of 1 - 7 hours have the smallest percentage of 2.37 percent.
