Abstract

  • In January 2022, all CPI cities in Sumatera Utara recorded inflation, namely Sibolga at 1.53 percent; Pematangsiantar by 0.96 percent; Medan by 1.04 percent; Padangsidimpuan by 0.90 percent; and Gunung Sitoli by 0.93 percent. Thus, the combined 5 CPI cities in North Sumatra in January 2022 had inflation of 1.03 percent.
  • In January 2022, Medan inflation was 1.04 percent or there was an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 105.92 in December 2021 to 107.02 in January 2022. Inflation occurred due to price increases from seven expenditure groups, namely the food and beverage group. , and tobacco by 2.57 percent; housing, water, electricity, and household fuel groups by 0.14 percent; household equipment, equipment, and routine maintenance group by 0.90 percent; transportation group by 0.52 percent; recreation, sports, and cultural groups by 1.02 percent; food and beverage/restaurant supply group by 0.42 percent; and the personal care and other services group by 0.74 percent. On the other hand, the groups that experienced a decline in prices were the clothing and footwear group by 0.04 percent; and the information, communication, and financial services group by 0.12 percent. The other two expenditure groups did not experience changes in the index, namely the health group; and education groups.
  • The main commodities that contributed to inflation during January 2022 in Medan included purebred chicken meat, broiler eggs, filter kretek cigarettes, tomatoes, cooking oil, tuna/ambu-ambu fish, and air transportation.
  • Of the 24 CPI cities on Sumatra Island, all cities recorded inflation. The highest inflation was in Sibolga at 1.53 percent with CPI at 109.81 and the lowest in Bandar Lampung and Tanjung Pinang at 0.38 percent with CPI at 109.04 and 106.10, respectively.
