Abstract

In June 2021, three CPI cities in North Sumatra recorded inflation, namely Sibolga at 0.31 percent; Pematangsiantar by 0.23 percent; and Medan by 0.03 percent. While the other two cities had deflation, namely Padangsidimpuan by 0.26 percent and Gunung Sitoli by 0.28 percent. Thus, the combined 5 CPI cities in North Sumatra in June 2021 had inflation of 0.03 percent.
In June 2021, Medan inflation was 0.03 percent or there was an increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 104.47 in May 2021 to 104.50 in June 2021. Inflation occurred due to an increase in prices indicated, namely housing, water, electricity. , and household fuel by 0.36 percent; household equipment, equipment, and routine maintenance group by 0.22 percent; information, communication, and financial services group by 0.03 percent; food and beverage/restaurant supply group by 0.14 percent; and the personal care and other services group by 0.97 percent. On the other hand, three groups showed a decrease in index, namely the food, beverage and tobacco group by 0.33 percent; clothing and footwear group by 0.14 percent; and the transportation group by 0.13 percent. Meanwhile, the other three groups did not experience a change in index, namely the health group; recreation, sports, and cultural groups; and education groups.
The main commodities contributing to inflation during June 2021 in Medan, among others, are dencis fish, house rent, mustard greens, oranges, potatoes, gold jewelry, and broccoli.
Of the 24 CPI cities on the island of Sumatra, 10 cities recorded inflation. The highest inflation was in Tanjung Pandan at 0.36 percent with a CPI of 108.78 and the lowest was in Pekanbaru at 0.01 percent with a CPI of 105.28.
