Abstract

The labor force in August 2019 was 7.06 million people, down 60 thousand compared to August 2018. In line with that the Labor Force Participation Rate (TPAK) also fell 1.63 points.

In the last year TPT dropped 0.15 points to 5.41 percent in August 2019. Judging from the level of education, the highest TPT was TPT with a vocational education level of 8.5 percent.

The population of people working in North Sumatra in August 2019 was 6.68 million, a decrease of 47 thousand from August 2018. Based on the main employment in August 2019, the population mostly worked in the agricultural sector (35.54 percent), followed by the wholesale and retail trade sectors; car and motorcycle repair and maintenance (17.68 percent) and the manufacturing sector (9.91 percent).

Most of the working population ie 55.16 percent (3.68 million people) work in informal activities. Over the past year, from August 2018 informal workers fell by 1.56 points.

The percentage of incomplete workers in August 2019 of 31.03 percent consisted of part-time workers 23.77 percent and underemployment of 7.66 percent. While full-time workers or those who work at least 35 hours per week have as many as 68.97 percent.
